Meet Mike Sorah, The Chief Technology Officer of Rosoka

I would like to introduce our next member of the Rosoka team, Mike Sorah. Feel free to ask questions by tweeting @RosokaExtract!

What hobbies do you enjoy outside of work?

I like to do hiking and backpacking. And I do a lot of that with the Boy Scouts and Venturing Crew. I work with the Scouts and Venturing Crew members on becoming future leaders. I watched my son become an Eagle Scout and my daughter is in Venturing Crew.  The picture with the waterfall is from one of the high adventure trips. The waterfall is at Franconia Notch, New Hampshire near the Appalachian Trial. The second picture has some of the Venturing Crew on the overlook above Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.  The girl with the purple backpack is my daughter. Of course they all made it to the top before I did.

What were some of your biggest challenges when you joined Rosoka Software?

I am one of the founders, so I was writing the all of the code for our first product and helping to get the first copy of our software sold. We had to bootstrap the company, without any VC investors, so there was no money until we finally started selling the software. The biggest challenge was in spite of no investors, taking the risk and believing that we would succeed. It was pretty much working around the clock for future opportunity, to build a successful and growing company.  Most people don't see or understand how much work it is to build a company.

How do you see yourself evolving in your job?

I see myself evolving in my job by doing a lot less coding, and concentrating more on our future technology and vision; more of the CTO role. I've never liked working on "me too" or "better" evolutionary products. I like to build the impossible, the revolutionary.

What is your favorite things about the Rosoka culture?

Honor, Integrity, Trust. It brings more of a family atmosphere, and at the same time it empowers everyone to excel or fail. And we will excel or fail as a team as a company, so we won't fail.

What career advice would you have for someone wanting to join the Rosoka team?

To be successful, you need to work at or towards what you enjoy doing. If we match what you enjoy doing and if you have the desire to learn and do things that no one has done before, and have thought through how to accomplish them, then lets’ talk.

Would you like to share a quote that inspires you in your professional or personal life?

"If at first you don't succeed, then perhaps parachute jumping is not for you!"  I first heard this from my son, which is a funny way to say the formula professional and personal success, "Do or do not, there is no try" -Yoda. If you are going to be successful at it, at some point you have to committed to it, education, work, career, marriage, life, parachuting.
